    Difference between the two segments

    3222110

      Hi everyone,

      I'd like to know the difference between below two segments.

      Segment A

      <Filter 1 : include>

      Condition 1: There are custom object data records within the last 30 days

      (AND)

      Condition 2: (NOT) There are custom object data records within the last 29days

      Segment B

      <Filter 1 : include>

      Condition 1: There are custom object data records within the last 30 days

      <Filter 2 : exclude>

      Condition 1: There are custom object data records within the last 29 days

      The problem is that it is a different amount of unique contacts in these two segments.

      Thank you in advance for any help.

          Hi There,

          In the second segment do you have (AND) as well?

          Additionally can you please say which segment has the higher number? I believe that in the first segment you are collecting all contacts that have custom object data records within the last 30 days and all the ones that don't have custom object data records within the last 29days.

          In the second one you are collecting only the ones that have custom object data records within the last 30 days

            Hi Alessandro La Banca,

            Thank you for your reply.

            Segment B has two filters, each having one condition. Therefore Segment B does not have an (AND) condition.

            Also, Segment A has a much higher number than Segment B. Segment A has 7,354 unique contacts, and Segment B has 185 unique contacts.

            The two conditions of Segment A are connected by (AND). Should not the intersection of Condition 1 and Condition 2 be displayed as a result?

            Segment B was excluded from filter 1 to filter 2. This is what I want.

            But I think Segment A and Segment B should have the same result.

            How about your opinion?

              Hi There,

              So this is the problem:

              In segment A you are including all contacts that have custom object data records within the last 30 days and all the ones that don't have custom object data records within the last 29 days so for this reason the number is very high. You are basically including everyone.

              In segment B you are collecting only the ones that have custom object data records within the last 30 days and 'excluding' all the others so for this reason the number is very low.

              In the Segment A you are not excluding. You are saying that you want the ones with the custom object data records in the last 30 days AND the ones that don't have the custom object data records within the last 29 days.

                A screen shot or two of the segment in question would help.

                  Hi There,

                  I'm sorry to late reply.

                  I now had some understanding.

                  Here is a screenshot.

                  [Segment A]

                  Segment A.jpg

                  [Segment B]

                  Segment B.jpg

                  I confused about the meaning of 'record'.

                  I have one more question.

                  Please see the below screenshot.

                  [Segment C]

                  Segment C.jpg

                  Why the number of Segment C is different from Segment B?

                  Always Thank you for your help!

                    From what I can see here, it looks like Segment C is excluding the "Condition 1" custom object instead of "Condition 2".

                    If the intent is to exclude Condition 2 contacts with an end date not within the last 29 days, then go with your Segment B design.

                      So from my personal point of view this is what's happening:

                      Segment A: You are not excluding anyone.

                      Segment B: You are excluding contacts with: end date within the last 29 day

                      Segment C: Big question mark! As Ken said it seems that this segment is excluding the contacts with: End date within the last 30 day. Honestly I don't really know the reason why this is happening. Please correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that the logic behind Segment C is the same of Segment A.

                        Segment A, You are including all  no question of using not in 29 days

                        Segmnet B, Since you are excluding last 29 days, hence it's  obvious you get only limited record within last 3 th days

                        Segment C is same as A  as you are not including any last 29 days data
