Are you installing Oracle Designer 10g on Windows 7 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit?
RNester
I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64-bit.
Mark Striekwold
Oracle Designer 10gR2 is not officially supported on a 64-bit OS.

There is a difference in being supported and being able to install. There are some posts where Designer was installed on Windows 7 64-bit with the compatibility mode set on Win XP SP 3.
RNester
I tried this using both Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP SP3, with the same results

Do you have Windows 7 - Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise? It seem that running Windows XP Mode requires one of these versions. It is not supported in Home Premium.
RNester
I'm using Windows 7 Enterprise Edition.

Designer is only a 32 bit tool and not supported on a x64 OS.

Hope this helps

If someone's response is helpful or correct, please mark it accordingly.

Although it's not supported, I had no trouble installing it on a different computer running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I don't know why I am having trouble with this computer.

Then, May be OS version is the problem. Try also compatible mode.

Which Designer 10g? Tell us the full name of the file from which you are installing. Some versions are available on OTN that cannot be installed stand-alone - they are upgrade packs for a previous version. Designer comes as part of the Oracle Developer 10g Suite, and you must install the entire suite. Oracle Reports is particularly important, because this is the tool that Designer's reports use.

Finally, give us your entire sequence of steps, what you did, what you saw on the screen, including error messages.

I downloaded the folllowing files from Oracle Technology Network:

ds_windows_x86_101202_disk1.zip
ds_windows_x86_101202_disk2.zip

in unzipped them into folders named disk1 and disk2, respectively

I updated the compatibility properties of disk1\setup.exe to Windows XP (I tried both SP2 and SP3)

I started disk1\setup.exe, receiving the results above.
RNester
I solved my own problem. I had to install it logged in as Administrator.
