    releaseing packages in 24x7 environnment

    Pat Fahy

      Hello,

Can anyone direct me to any articles in the community or the documentation  on how to release packages seamlessly to a 24x7 environment.  I have searched but not found any.  I'm not a DBA but a developer.

      Using Oracle 11R2

We have 2 proposals at present

Using 2 schemas and public synonyms:

Keep the packages all in one schema

Create public synonyms for the packages

Clone the live schema owner to another one

Release the new packages to the cloned schema but not to the "live" one

Then replace the public synonyms to point to the new schema

Using 2 schemas and no synonyms

Keep the packages all in one schema

      Do not use synonyms

Have the application use alter session default schema SCHEMA1 -- the live one

Clone the live schema owner to another one

Release the new packages to the cloned schema but not to the "live" one

Make the next session execute alter session default schema SCHEMA2 -- the cloned one

Obviously neither of these will not cope with serious table changes but we are prepared to have occasional outages for that and expect several package releases in the coming year.

      Many Thanks,

      Pat.
