The current behavior is what the Oracle spec in regards to standard JSON responses should look like. There's not a flag you can set to hide attributes on whether they're NULL or not. So you would need to change the code on your service, or create the JSON payload yourself as you suggested.

Hi guys, do you have any idea, about how to return, inside the JSON response, and instead of a "NULL" value, something like this:
"items" : [
"children" : [ ]
Where "children", is currently a SELECT with no results. Y can not find a way to represent an empty JSON array from PL/SQL.
I had the same thing happen to my apps. Front end code expecting a non existing object when not available and did strange things when returned "null"
But this is what is defined in the JSON definition: JSON
It's the difference between "I know of this object and for this particular response there is no value i.e. null" and "This object doesn't exist and I don't know what it is" .
