    Need Debugging help Oracle to MYSQL local single instance install

    rjsosi

      Hi,

      I've been following your advice and set up my environment.

      I created a dblink and tested it. I got an "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" error.

      I'm pretty sure I've got a mis-setting somewhere.

      I'm going to past my entire layout and anyone that wants to peruse through and spot the error(s) please feel free.:

          In which Oracle Home was the Gateway installed? Your listener points here:

              (SID_DESC =

                (SID_NAME = MYSQL80w)

                (ORACLE_HOME = C:\app\mylogin\virtual\product\12.2.0\dbhome_1

                (PROGRAM = dg4odbc)

          It should be the Home where the Gateway was installed. I usually install them on a dedicated ORACLE_HOME, I do noy know if you have done so...

          Also, please check that you can connect to MySQL using any ODBC tool (Excel?)

            With ORA-12154, he never got anywhere near the gateway nor any listener.

              What did you discover when you googled 'ORA-12154'?

              See https://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2018/09/19/troubleshooting-ora-12154/  for a genera discussion of ORA-12154.

              Now, go back to my article on configuring the gateway and see where tnsnames.ora fits in.  The 'host' name in your db link refers to an entry in tnsnames.ora on the oracle database server.

              Show us the definition of your database link, and the relevant entry in tnsnames.ora on the database server.

                Tried to connect in Excel. Got the following.

                I have MYSQL80 as the instance name and MYSQL80w as the DSN name.

                Which one should I have used?

                  I'm reading your linked article now but FYI when I googled 'ORA-12154' I got a Forum thread that basically covered checking the correctness of every one of your Parenthesis pairs in both tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.

                  I did it and mine all matched.

                    You should use the DSN name,

                    And then just pick the one you already configured:

                    • 7. Re: Need Debugging help Oracle to MYSQL local single instance install

                      I tried and I was able to pull up a MYSQL80a session but when I ran the test query and got the following error message

                      Details: "ODBC: ERROR [IM014] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver (64-bit) and Application (32-bit)"

                      So I think it would work if I tested this in a 64 bit app.

                        Here's my DB Link I created in Oracle:

                        create public database link MYSQL80 connect to "root" identified by ",password>" using 'MYSQL80';

                        My relevant tnsnames.ora info  is the following:

                        1.
                        2.   MYSQL80=
                        3.    (DESCRIPTION=
                        4.       (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 3306))
                        5.
                        6.       (CONNECT_DATA=
                        7.          (SID=MYSQL80))
                        8.       (HS=OK))

                        Here's something else. I keep getting references to my SQLNET.ora file.

                        Just an FYI: to make things easier on myself I Employed the use of TNS_ADMIN and set it to c:\LOCAL\network\admin  for standardization.

                        It looks like the Oracle Net Manager does pick it up correctly.

                        The SQLNET.ora file in the TNS_ADMIN directory is:

                        SQLNET.KERBEROS5_CC_NAME = C:\oracle\Kerbos_credcach.txt

                        SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)

                        NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT, LDAP)

                        SQLNET.KERBEROS5_CLOCKSKEW = 6000

                        SQLNET.KERBEROS5_CONF = C:\oracle\ora10g\NETWORK\ADMIN\krb5.conf

                        SQLNET.KERBEROS5_CONF_MIT = TRUE

                        SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_KERBEROS5_SERVICE = oracle

                        ADR_BASE = C:\app\mylogin\virtual\product\12.2.0\dbhome_1\log

                        It was originally just one line (SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)) but because I started playing with it in Net Manager it picked up all these other entries. Does anything in here look off?

                            I just checked the install log and Oracle Database Gateway was installed in the same home directory as everything else.

                              I went through you article and here's what I discovered.

                              Wrong Naming method:

                              My Names entry seemed to be valid.

                              NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT, LDAP)

                              Can't locate tnsnames.ora:

                              The Oracle Net Manager Picks it up. Also when I'm in SQL Developer and select TNS as the connect in type, All the TNS Descriptor names come up.

                              However when I try to tnsping ORA_DEV entry I get the  error:

                              TNS-03505: Failed to resolve name

                              Can't find Connect descriptor in tnsnames.ora

                              I added local host to the end of ORCL_DEV in the tnsnames file .

                              I added the3 NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN=localhost to the SQLNET.ora file.

                              I tried a "tnsping ORCL_DEV.localhost" and still got a TNS-03505

                              I can see the name in the list of available databases in SQL Developer when I scroll down the attached tnsnames file.

                              Also and I can , in fact , connect in SQL Developer to the ORCL_DEV ( my descriptor )  and a session comes up.

                              Why I can't do I simple tnsping from the command line is beyond me.

                              So that kind of checks off your list from you article. I'm not sure what's left.

                              The confusing thing is I just pulled up a TNS based session in SQL Developer but I'm still getting the TNS-03505 when I do a tnsping.

                              I'm not sure what I'm missing?

                                You may need to start over with the description of the issue and the files in their current state.

                                I'll give it a shot right now with what I see is incorrect.

                                First, remove NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN=localhost  from the sqlnet.ora file.

                                I won't go into explaining the why behind this ... you simply do not need it based on the way things are configured.

                                Next, you state you have this for your tnsnames.ora file entry

                                MYSQL80=

                                   (DESCRIPTION=

                                      (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 3306))

                                      (CONNECT_DATA=

                                         (SID=MYSQL80))

                                      (HS=OK))

                                You have the incorrect port number.  It should be 1521.  Remember, tnsnames.ora sores information for a client to call a listener.

                                Your listener address is  (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521)).  3306 is the port number for the

                                remote MySQL db.  With DG4ODBC, the ODBC driver is used to make the connection to the 3rd party DB.

                                Also, the SID value is incorrect.  You have SID_NAME in the listener.ora file defined as MYSQL80W.  This means the SID value of the tnsnames.ora file

                                entry MUST be MYSQL80w.

                                So the entry should read:

                                MYSQL80=

                                   (DESCRIPTION=

                                      (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))

                                      (CONNECT_DATA=

                                         (SID=MYSQL80w))

                                      (HS=OK))

                                Make sure the first line of the entry, MYSQL80 is on the left margin of the file and that the subsequent lines that begin

                                with open or close parentheses are indented at least one space off of the left margin.  Review all the entries in the file

                                for this.  Incorrect syntax can throw off the entire file.

                                Now for tnsping .... you state you issue tnsping MYSQL80W.  This is incorrect.  The name of your tnsnames.ora file alias

                                for this connection is MYSQL80 (i.e. the first line of the entry).  Therefore, you should issue the command tnsping MYSQL80

                                Is the tnsnames.ora file you are updating in the ORACLE DB home where you want to create the DBLINK?

                                Try this and post the results.   If it fails, provide what you currently have for the listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, initMYSQL80w.ora (even though

                                you are not even reaching that file yet) and the SQLNET.ora file.

                                Regards,

                                Matt

                                  rjsosi

                                  You were right about two things. The name of my SID in the tnsnames file AND I think more importantly the margin positions of the tns names descriptors.

                                  It's been so long since I've done this I totally forgot how "specific" the tnsnames.ora file is about that.

                                  I put all the names in the first margin, I set the SID in the tnsnames.ora file so it matches the SID_NAME in the listener.ora file and that did it.

                                  I was finally able to get a return of 'OK' when I did a tnsping on MYSQL80.

                                  So I recreated my db link in my local Oracle db as the following

                                  create public database link MYSQL80w connect to "root" identified by "pasword1" using 'MYSQL80w';

                                  The definition is as follows.

                                  But when I TEST the database link I get:

                                  An error was encountered performing the requested operation:

                                             'extproc_connection_data' for an external procedure call.
                                  Vendor code 28545

                                  So it looks like it's telling me the problem is at "connection Initialization".

                                  OK so where in the entire "Handshake Process" is the Connection Initialization part? What entries in my tnsnames.ora or listener.ora are relevant at that exact time? Or is it something with SQLNET.ora?

                                  It's also telling me to check the Heterogenious connection services in both tnsnames.ora and listener.ora. So that leads us back to our settings which I'm not sure how much more we can tweek.

                                  But then it's saying check the extproc_connection_data' for an external procedure call. I'm seeing this setting and it's been so long I forgot what they're used for. I always though it refereed back to a local connection.

                                  I'm going to list my 3 updated connection files once more as you had suggested. Again the new Database link I added in Oracle is listed above.

                                    Should I be using this instead of localhost?
