      I wish to know basically how a query gets executed while we execute it? What are all the happenings that takes place behind it?

          Do you want to see "Explain Plan" of the query?

          in SQLPlus if you set

          SET AUTOTRACE ON

          you will see details of your statement after it executed.

          or you can use EXPLAIN PLAN method doesn't require the query to be run; just type EXPLAIN PLAN FOR YOUR_STATEMENT and than execute utlxpls.sql

          For example
          EXPLAIN PLAN FOR SELECT * FROM emp e, dept d WHERE e.deptno = d.deptno;

          @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlxpls.sql
