      Hi ALL,

      Can you share me docs/links on how to convert pfile to spfile on EBS?

      I know  the command like > create spfile from pfile;

      But I do not know how to set it as the default spfile during startup.

      Please help....

      Kind regards,

      jc

          1.create spfile from  pfile='<path to pfile>';

          2. shutdown application services

          3.shutdown database listener

          4.shutdown database

          5 start database

          6. Verify database is started using spfile  (login as /as sysdba and type the following command):

                   show parameter spfile

          If it returned value then the database is started using spfile.

          7.start database listener.

          8.start application services.

          In short, you need to bounce the database after creating spfile from pfile

            The database will use the spfile before it uses the pfile. If the spfile is in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory it will use it to startup. You don't have to do anything special if it's in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory it will use the spfile.

            If you want to use an spfile with rac on asm, and the file is saved in asm, then point the pfile in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs to the spfile in asm directory. (that's how we used to do it anyway, there could be a better way that I don't know of). I'll look up the syntax if you are using asm.

              Thanks Imu, Mussa and ALL

              Can you share me document on how to convert all file-system based  database to ASM?

              Even if our database is just ordinary non-rac, I still want to use +ASM because the disk I/O is faster?

              For example, our database is in one big disk mounted file-system which is  /u01.

              Can I created a counterpart one big  raw ASM disk   /dev/sda1   and copy all the contents of /u01?

              Is this possible?

              Kind regards,
