        Hi,

        Just for remember....

        Oracle prefers the use of an SPFILE to a PFILE. When you startup your Oracle database, Oracle will scan the contents of your parameter directory ($ORACLE_HOME/database on Windows or the Linux directory name $ORACLE_HOME/dbs), searching in the following order:

        * spfileSID.ora

        * spfile.ora

        * initSID.ora

        * init.ora

        If the directory contains none of the above, then the startup will fail.

        Alternatively, you can tell Oracle where to find a PFILE if you store it in a different location.

        SQL> startup pfile=/path/to/pfile/initSID.ora

        Cheers

          Hi !

          I did and then:

          "
          SQL> startup pfile='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\dbs\initXE.ora'
          ;
          ORA-01261: Parameter db_recovery_file_dest destination string cannot be translat
          ed
          ORA-01263: Name given for file destination directory is invalid
          "

          I'm reading the link.

          Thanks.

            Make sure the directory used in DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST exists and you have permissions to read/write to it. If the directory does not exist, change the parameter to a directory that does exist.

                  or create pfile by opening your spfile manually, copy the parameters from spfile save it as init<db>.ora file and then startup with pfile.

                  in the new file remove the parameter "db_recovery_file_dest "

                    Hi,

                    >>SQL> startup pfile='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\dbs\initXE.ora';
                    ORA-01261: Parameter db_recovery_file_dest destination string cannot be translated
                    ORA-01263: Name given for file destination directory is invalid

                    You just need to correct the value of this parameter with a valid path .. and after, you can re-create your spfile

                    Cheers

                      Hi,

                      If you have the Redo Log Files, then you need just to re-create the Control Files ...

                      1) SQL> startup nomount
                      2) SQL> create control file noresetlogs ...
                      3) SQL> recover database;
                      3) SQL> alter database open;

                      Cheers

                        I don't know how i can do this. I didn't change nothing before, the database was working and suddenly stops to work. I can´t recovery because the backups doesn't work too. Is it possible recovery my datas? I'm very worried.
                        I don't have redo logs.

                        Thanks and excuse me , but how you can see i'm not a "expert" in Oracle.

                          Hi,

                          Open in a text editor (notepad) the initXE.ora file and see if there is an entry called db_recovery_file_dest and post here your currently value

                          Cheers

                            1- C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\database
                            Contents:
                            "
                            SPFILE='C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\dbs/spfileXE.ora'
                            "
                            2-C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\dbs
                            "
                            db_recovery_file_dest='C:\BckOracle'
                            *.dispatchers='(PROTOCOL=TCP) (SERVICE=XEXDB)'
                            *.
                            "
                            !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                            This folder was erased, i created a new folder and now is WORKING!!!!!!!!

                              Thank You, I did not realize flash_recovery_area is used by oracle. It is working now.
