Peoplesoft creates work tables whose names include "TAO" for application engine programs. Peoplesoft recommends that statistics for those tables be managed entirely within the application engine programs. They should be completely excluded from Oracle's automatic statistics gathering . I can't figure out how to do that.
I know it is a good thing to do. At one customer site, they had dismal performance of an app engine every Monday morning, even though it ran in a few minutes at all other times. We found that the DB2 administrator was updating statistics on Sunday night. When he removed the TAO tables from the statistics maintenance, the app engine performed satisfactorily at all times.
I need to know how to exclude those tables from Oracle statistics.
Use the LOCK_TABLE_STATS to lock the gather stats on the tables for which you're sure about the currently statistics values.<br>
