    Access to EM Database Control

    553129
I can enter in EM Database Control with the following directions:

      http://192.168.0.5:1158/em http://localhost:1158/em http://127.0.0.1:1158/em

But not with the http://nshcare_server:1158/em direction where to nshcare_server it is the name of host (machine_name).

When introducing the user and the password, return to appear the screen again of login without showing no error. If, for example, an incorrect password is introduced, appears a message of error.

Why does not work putting the name of host?

      Thanks.

          Hi,

You is trying to access from the same machine where the EM is installed or from a client machine?

          Cheers

If you are accessing the machine remotely, then you need to make sure nshcare_server registered in your DNS server or an entry is added to the hosts file of the client (/etc/hosts for Unix and C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for Windows)

He is indifferent. It happens equal from the same machine and a machine client.

I do not understand because it happens.

Eric, the O.S. is Windows 2003 R2 and the name of host (nshcare_server) is registered in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, but no work correctly.

                  Hi,

From a client machine, the "ping nshcare_server" command works ?

                  Cheers

                    Legatti, works correctly.

I enclose an example to you:

                    C:\Documents and Settings\Albert>ping nshcare_server

Haciendo ping a nshcare_server [192.168.0.5] con 32 bytes de datos:

                    Respuesta desde 192.168.0.5: bytes=32 tiempo<1m TTL=128

                    Estadísticas de ping para 192.168.0.5:
                    Paquetes: enviados = 4, recibidos = 4, perdidos = 0

                      Hi,

What is the output of the emctl status dbconsole command ?
In addition, you can post here also the contents of the emd.properties, emoms.properties and targets.xml files.

                      Cheers

                          Hi,

It seems all to be OK.
I think that the problem is that you not have a DNS server. I think that the ping <hostname> works because the resolution name that Windows NETBIOS protocol have.

See if this link below help you about LMHOSTS file.
                          http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314108

                          Cheers

server. I think that the ping <hostname> works
because the resolution name that Windows NETBIOS
                            protocol have.
DNS is not being used. The ping works because an entry is located in the host file.
the O.S. is Windows 2003 R2 and the name of host (nshcare_server) is
registered in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, but no work correctly.

Are you seeing any errors in emoms.trc or emagent.trc? These files can be found in ORACLE_HOME\<machine name>_<db sid>\sysman\logs.

Do you have the loop back adapter installed and if so which one of the IPs is the loop back adapter. Also post the contents of your host file.

                                Hi Eric,

                                >>The ping works because an entry is located in the host file.
The ping command was execute from a client machine. I think that if the ping works then the hosts file was configured correctly. Why the same name on a web browser not works?
On a Windows network I always confuse about this, because a windows machine's NETBIOS name is not the same computer's host name. :-)

                                Cheers

                                    Is your database open?

The errors in your trace files suggest the database is not open.
