    Manage Current Backups

    448969
      Greetings,

      I am trying to delete some old backups using Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control (Maintenance>Manage Current Backups>Check box next to backup to be deleted>Click delete button) but I get an error when the delete is attempted. The error reads

      Recovery Manager: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Feb 5 14:59:57 2007

      Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.

      RMAN>
      connected to target database: COMPANY (DBID=3674899406)
      using target database control file instead of recovery catalog

      RMAN>
      echo set on

      RMAN> DELETE NOPROMPT BACKUPSET 7;
      allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
      channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=125 devtype=DISK
      released channel: ORA_DISK_1

      ORA-27211: Failed to load Media Management Library
      exit;

      Recovery Manager complete.

      When I see this line "ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:" it makes me think RMAN wants to delete from a tape but this is a disk backup.

      Any ideas?

            From Maintenance > Manage Current Backups

            What does the Device Type column show for that selected backup you want to delete?

              I have exactly the same problem.

              Maintenance > Manage Current Backups
              shows Device Type DISK for all backups

              I also looked up the configuration settings, to verify the DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE :
              RMAN > show all;

              CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1;
              CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION OFF; # default
              CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
              CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
              CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '%F'; # default
              CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO '%F'; # default
              CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK BACKUP TYPE TO COMPRESSED BACKUPSET PARALLELISM 1;
              CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
              CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
              CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # default
              CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
              CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE SBT_TAPE TO 1; # default
              CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK MAXPIECESIZE 4 G;
              CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' MAXPIECESIZE 4 G;
              CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
              CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
              CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
              CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
              CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'E:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\SNCFXPDEV1.ORA'; # default

                So, are you using SBT_TAPE device?

                If no, do:

                RMAN> CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' CLEAR;

                and you'll get only DISK device type
