REP-3000: Internal error starting Oracle Toolkit

    532564
      Hi Apps dbas,

We have two systems, which were cloned from the production.
When running the Statement Generation Program(ARXSGP) cm request, one got error
REP-3000: Internal error starting Oracle Toolkit.
      The other is working fine.

      Based on metalink note:
Quick Checks for REP-3000: Internal Error Starting Oracle Toolkit.
           Doc ID:      Note:364838.1
I checked both systems, and I didn’t find the VNC running. ( We use vnc)
I checked the adrepctl.sh , the DISPLAY on both system is set to their db-tier host.

      We are on 11.5.10.2.

Any idea about this? Your help is appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Lily

REP-3000 indicates that the DISPLAY is not set properly. Check the DISPLAY in adcmctl.sh (CM script) as well.

I suggest you verify the DISPLAY entry in the context file and run AutoConfig then.

In the applications environment, type ar60desb

                If it doens't open up

                open $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon6/tk60/admin/Tk2Motif.rgb

you might need to look for the line:

                !Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-2=EE8ISO8859P

                and change it to

                Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-2=UTF8

If your characterset is UTF8. Use your real characterset.

Otherwise, look to see if you applied 5562809 MLR ON TOP OF REPORTS PS18 FOR CPUOCT2006 FOR BUGS 5139554,5012141 from the October 2006 Critical Patch Update.

This patch resolved librw60.sw.0 open failed, no such object errors trying to run ar60desb from the command line, or a bitmapped report from 11.5.10.2

If you get 'Signal 10' error in the log file of the request, then most probably it is !Tk2Motif*fontMapCs issue as mentioned above.

Set the display as mentioned and start your application services from the same window not from a telnet session.

Thank all of you. I really appreciate your precious replies.

                          For the DISPLAY:
Both systems are set to the hostname:0.0 in the xml file.

                          In both systems:
On the box where the cm is rnning,
pf –ef | grep –I vnc
                          No any is running.

I am always confused about the x-server, xhost or xterm such kind of things. Seems never understand fully.

I am checking our production box. I assum it should be working.

applmgr:OPEBSN(db)> ps -ef | grep vnc

                                oracle 8618 1 0 Jan12 ? 00:25:49 Xvnc :1 -desktop hostdb01.xxx.org:1 (oracle) -httpd /usr/share/vnc/classes -auth /home/oracle/.Xauthority -geometry 1024x768 -depth 16 -rfbwait 30000 -rfbauth /home/oracle/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5901 -pn

                                applmgr 10572 1 0 Jan16 ? 00:00:05 Xvnc :3 -desktop hostdb01.xxx.org:3 (applmgr) -httpd /usr/share/vnc/classes -auth /home/applmgr/.Xauthority -geometry 1024x768 -depth 16 -rfbwait 30000 -rfbauth /home/applmgr/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5903 –pn

                                export DISPLAY=hostdb01:3
                                applmgr:OPEBSN(db)> xclock
The system is waiting for a logn time and The clock picture never shows up.
                                I had to cancel this.

What is wrong with the x-server? It seems that we cannot talk to it?

                                Thanks,

                                  Hi Lily,

You probably have multiple issues here. First, you need to be either in a xterm window on the physical server as applmgr, or use kssh, or some tool that pass X windows to your client machine to connect as applmgr. If you ssh as your user, and su to applmgr, you will need to export DISPLAY={your client IP addess}:0.0, and try to type xclock and see if you see it. Once that is working try ar60desb in the applmgr 11i environment. If that fails to open and xclock works, you have a problem with your tkmotif.rgb file.

If the 11i instance is on a Linux server, I have never been able to get it to use the Xvnc process delivered on 2.6 kernel distributions. The workaround I have used for dynamic gif generation (OAM pages) and bitmapped reports, what you are trying to do, is to use Xvfb. There are several articles on Metalink that describe your options for accessing a DISPLAY in 11i.

                                  Make sure xorg-x11-Xvfb is installed.

On SLES9, create a script xvfbserver in /etc/init.d as follows:

                                  #!/bin/sh
                                  ### BEGIN INIT INFO
                                  # Provides: xvfb
                                  # Required-Start: $network $syslog $remote_fs
                                  # Should-Start: $time ypbind sendmail
                                  # Required-Stop: $network $syslog $remote_fs
                                  # Should-Stop: $time ypbind sendmail
                                  # Default-Start: 3 5
                                  # Default-Stop: 0 1 2 6

                                  # Description: Start the xvfb service on host.domain:50
                                  ### END INIT INFO
                                  nohup /usr/bin/X11/Xvfb :50 -screen 0 1024x800x8 -pn -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc
                                  -sp /etc/X11/xserver/SecurityPolicy &
                                  export DISPLAY=host.domain:50.0

                                  nohup /usr/bin/X11/mwm &

                                  Install it with insserv xvfbserver.

Check your runlevels to ensure it starts at bootup, and reboot ther server. Do a ps -ef | grep vfb to ensure it is running.

The key for Reports REP-3000 is Reports 6i required the Motif Window Manager (mwm) process to be running.

The go to your autoconfig context file, and set the DISPLAY environment variable to the same value specified in the xvfbserver script, and run autoconfig.

These steps were buried on the bottom of the first page of the following forum thread:

Installation of 11.5.10 on Linux (Suse or Redhat)

Let us know how this goes.
