Could I use VC++ 6 instead of VC++ 8For R12, you need to install Visual C++ 2005 (also known as Visual C++ 8.0) included in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 (from either the Standard or Professional editions). Visual C++ 2008 (9.0) is not currently certified with EBS Release 12.

Did you download the setup.exe from the Cygwin site? Do you have the latest version? Both packages should be there.
would it be possible install R12 as well?RapidWiz may not need these two packages, but you would NOT be able to apply patches and relink executable files later. So, you still need to have all required packages installed.
thanks for ur reply
actually i followed the instruction as of ur first page of this topic, which is point 8
after selecting "download without installing",
local package directory, then i select direct connection
THEN, there is whole bunch of available download sites to select
can i just pick any one of those or is there any specific one that i should pick to have the latest version?

Regarding cygwin manual selection for download
i don't understand
why i don't have the following options
"diffutils" under "Base"
"mktemp" under "Devel"
If i can't manually select the above options
would it be possible install R12 as well?
