    listener configuration problem

    576927
      Hi,

      I'm new to Oracle. I installed Oracle 10.2 on a Solaris box.

      When I want to start the database I get following error:

      ./lsnrctl start

          There are two issues here. When those errors "Message NNNN not found. No message file for ..." appears it means you are pointing to the wrong Oracle Home. Firts issue is to make sure your environment variables are properly set.

          Next, TNS-12545 means a connetivity issue, Connect failed because target host or object does not exist

          Cause:
          The address specified is not valid, or the program being connected to does not exist.

          Action:
          Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.) If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the host name to a numeric IP address and try again.

            I see that tnsping returns errors. I entered the ip instead of the hostname but I still have problems.

            ./tnsping orcl

                ORACLE_SID=orcl

                ORACLE_HOME=/export/home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1

                the oracle_home path is ok. yes it's a lttiel stupid with ./oracle/oracle but the path exists

                  Looks like you have not set following environment variable

                  ORACLE_HOME
                  ORACLE_SID
                  PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin;$PATH

                    I added the $ORACLE_HOME/bin to PATH and the environment problem was solved.
                    I still have one problem:

                    tnsping orcl

                    Used parameter files:
                    /export/home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/admin/sqlnet.ora

                    Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
