The DATEDIFF function is recognised by the T-SQL parser. It can not be used in PL/SQL though.

I think you reversed yourself. It should be:

It is, after all, a SQL Server function.
That must be a (possibly old) Sybase restriction, because you can use DATEDIFF in T-SQL in SQL Server, at least the versions that I am familiar with.
I keep forgetting about Sybase, even though we have a couple of aplpications using it.
Did you get the date diff to work in Oracle? We are using version 7+ and it isn't a function with this version.
