I am not quite sure about this error however.
1. you need to have a working databse (does not need to be in this pc where designer will be installed)
2. Developer suite needs to be installed before you install the 10.1.2.3 patch.
3. install the Designer 10.1.2.3 patch to the Developer suite home.
4. then you need to install the repository on the database.
hope this helps.
this problem happens before the installation is completed (82%) so there is no need for a working database at this point.
2) are you sure that you have to have developer suite installed to get Designer running? then why it is available as a standalone product?
I am getting the same error, I will keep you posted with the result as soon as I get anything.
Designer is not a standalone product. It use to be. Designer was incorperated into Developer Suite when DeveloperSuite 9i first came out.
If you just install the patch then Designers full functionality will not work.
all I want from designer is to draw my database Schema, should I install developer to get this feature? and if I don't install developer suite I should be able to install designer right?
I have had customers just install the patch and parts of Designer did work. However, not all of designer worked and it is not certified to just add the patch.
If you want to create a service request through Metalink I will be happy to complete an Oracle Web Confrence and assist you in the instalation.
thanks a lot for the offer michael, I appreciate your help, I will let you know when I have some time to do this.
Hey.. i have a similar problem.. my installation stops at 82% and gives me the error described in the previous messages... so the solution is to also install a database.. and which one is recommended?
Try setting the import export tools to your local DB.
I still don't know what you mean by that... because i can't finish the installation.. so i muss do something before i install the designer..
3. install the Designer 10.1.2.3 patch to the Developer suite home. When I try to do this at C:\oracle\product\Ora10gDSR2, I get a message OUI-10137: An Oracle Home with name OUIHome already exits at C:\OraHome (a directory that doesn't exist) please specify another name for Oracle Home.
I don't want to just specify another name because cleaning up these faulty installations requires deleting registry keys, etc, since the deinstall does't really remove everything sufficiently to start with a clean slate.
I also got the Java JDK message because the JDK 5 is no longer being put straight onto the C drive, it is buried in C:\Sun\SDK\jdk, so some java programs have to be pointed to it. The Oracle installer doesn't provide this option.
Also, Michael, your post, "Re: Designer 10.1.2.3 on windows Xp Posted: Oct 20, 2007 7:05 AM in response to: mmehdi" is full of unreadable characters and question marks. Maybe I don't have a font you are using. There are also references to a zip file and a Word document that aren't there.
Anyway, thanks for all your time and effort,
Have you solved your problem with step number 3? Because I've got similar condition with yours. I've googled and every path that I found pointed to this forum.
Can you share a little information about solving step 3?
Did you install Developer Suite in a new oracle Home? Then apply the patch to that same oracle home?
Yes, I've already installed DevSuite in a new Oracle Home (let's call it in a folder name "DevSuite" for my Oracle Home). And I've already tried to install Oracle Designer, path it to the same folder (DevSuite), and it show a message that I should remove or empty that folder (which you've written about your problem before).
Did anyone ever overcome this issue?
I have installed developer 10g suite, which included 126.96.36.199.14. I had issues with designer, mainly around popups displaying "??????" instead of messages. So I down loaded the Designer 10gR2 and tried to follow the above instructions to install in the patch set in the same oracle home as the developer 10g suite. As Edward says you get an error message saying oracle home already exists install in new home. When I try to install in a new home it gives me the JDK not found.
Ayone suggest the way forward, or is it just stick with the partly working 9.0.4 version ?
