    The listener supports no services

      Hi

Im pretty new to Oracle and just recently took a course for Oracle Adminstration 1

Anyways, I am trying to configure a service to connect to a listener that i made.

For the main database I created a listener

      "LISTENERTEST"

And put in my host name, as well as a port # of 1522 for example.

I then save my configuration and stop and start LISTENERTEST

      LSNRCTL> start listenertest
      Starting tnslsnr: please wait...

TNSLSNR for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
      System parameter file is C:\Oracle\network\admin\listener.ora
      Log messages written to C:\Oracle\network\log\listenertest.log
      Listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=rodney-bc20f911)(PORT=15
      22)))

      Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=rodney-bc20f911)(PORT=15
      22)))
      STATUS of the LISTENER
      ------------------------
      Alias listenertest
Version TNSLSNR for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Produ
      ction
      Start Date 07-JAN-2008 02:38:24
      Uptime 0 days 0 hr. 0 min. 3 sec
      Trace Level off
      Security ON: Local OS Authentication
      SNMP OFF
      Listener Parameter File C:\Oracle\network\admin\listener.ora
      Listener Log File C:\Oracle\network\log\listenertest.log
      Listening Endpoints Summary...
      (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=rodney-bc20f911)(PORT=1522)))
      The listener supports no services
      The command completed successfully

      ======================================================

I then go to my client (also on the local machine) and create a service "test".

I enter the host name as well as the port # of 1522 to connect and when I test the connection i get the following:

Initializing first test to use userid: scott, password: tiger
Attempting to connect using userid: scott
      The test did not succeed.
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor

There may be an error in the fields entered,
or the server may not be ready for a connection.

When i created the database i left everything else as default (ORCL SID) etc

Am i doing things wrong? Any insight would be greatly appreciated
