Enhancement Request Thread : Post 3.1

Hello,

There have been a few enhancement threads started up since 3.1 has been released. But they tend to get lost or repeated as time goes on just because of all our forum activity.

If we can consolidate post 3.1 enhancement requests in this thread it will be much easier to track them.

If you already have asked for a post 3.1 enhancement , you know who your are :), please provide a link to the thread here.

Feel free to give this thread a bump now and then if you want to keep it on top.

Regards,
Carl

    Hi,

I have some requests to the interactive reports:

    - The "waiting" graphic should be positioned next to region. Being at the top of the page, in some cases users can't see it.

    - I would like the possibility to base de IR source in a "function returning query" (very important).

    - Hability to easy customize the look and feel of the report (things like stretch, nowrap, colours, etc).

    - When adding a control break and a sum, we should have the possibility do hide detailed resulting rows. Example: If you add a break for departments and a sum for the salary, the report should have the possibility of hiding the rows of individual employees and show only the department name and the salary sum. Confused?

    - Enable keyboard navigation. Just one example: if you click a column title, you have a list of values... it would be nice to navigate with cursor keys.

    - Possibility for having a chart as a saved tab. Multipple charts would be nice to.

    - Have a pagination type wich permits to navigate to first/last record.

    Thanks,
    Paulo

    My wish list:

    1) Use of REF CURSORs as data source for report regions, lists of values, etc.

    2) Reworking of tabular forms: Built-in support for multiple tabular forms on the same page, and making it possible to reference the tabular form columns by name instead of index.

    3) Early exit from create page/button/region wizards: Just let me create the page/button/item/whatever in one click and take me directly to the details page so I can set values directly, without having to go through the full wizard. (This has already been mentioned by others.)

    4) A supported and documented PL/SQL API for creating/modifying applications programmatically (similar or identical to wwv_flow_api). As the author of ApexGen ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/apexgen/ ), I would be very interested in a supported way of generating applications...

Some sport of basic scheduler for Apex with Apache FOP.
I want to be able to submit a report which will run at a later date, capture the results and be able to display or email to users.

    Displaying a loading image

Re: Wait page for long running processes

Perhaps, the page builder could contain something that would allow you to type what message you want (EX: Please Wait..., Loading..., Hold Yer Horses..., etc) and then perhaps some options for graphics to use, or the ability to specify your own. All of this would, of course, only happen if you marked something to "Display Loading Message".

    Okay, since we're dreaming......

How about an integrated "advanced" report designer. <G>

    Chad

PS: Actually, sometimes requests are treated like they're a made to a jeanie from the lamp. So, let's say the above with the ability to run said reports and save their output to HTML, PDF, Excel, etc. <VBG>

I'll second that as it means creating a third party market (add-ons, components, <whatever>) for APEX which looks to me as the way to go.

I noticed that the following could be improved:

    Install Application Wizard:

    Auto Assign New Application ID
Reuse Application ID From Export File
    Change Application ID

are taking a way to long if you switch among the options (20, 30, 40 seconds just to switch
from Auto Assign to Change Application ID).

I don't see what needs to be done at that point but to switch the radio button display value.

I noticed that behavior on several systems I support. Since I'm supporting many systems
and often need to import applications I find it very time consuming.

    Hi,
I believe APEX needs list of serious enhancements related to right-to-left (RTL) language application development.
    - supply a CSS for both LTR and RTL languages

    - page item alignment should change its values dynamically Right -> Left and Left-> Right.
    - list templates: Tree list and DHTML templates
    - graphics for tabs, regions, buttons (whitch get messed up in RTL evironment)
    - other sorts of items and element like shuttle item, pagination order etc.

I may not mention all the enhancements here but RTL environment shoud be taken seriously with special features.
Currently it feels like "hacking the tool" :)

    Hello,

I would prefere some improvements concerning:

1.) PopUp-LOV: displaying some columns, returning not only ONE value, but some to populate some fileds (like LOV in Oracle-Forms).
2.) For printing I need a simple report generating and printing tool, not Oracle-Report-Writer in conjunction with BI-publisher as a "all-in-one tool suitable for every purpose".

In my opinion Pop-Up LOV is outdated and it should be replaced by a DHTML Calendar.

    Hello Denes,

Of course DHTML calendars are wonderful, bur I don't see, what a DHTML calendar has to do with a LOV - or am i slow-witted ?

I mean a classic LOV: e.g. clicking on a button a window is opened an shows, let me say, k_id, k_name, k_address1 and last_order_date of some customers in report style (one record per row). Selecting one row the values of k_id, k_name, k_address1 are passed to correspondig fields in my form.

    Regards,
    Heinz
