        entrust.on.newsun.tcp doesn't appear to be registered as a service name.

          The follwoing are parameters.
          The only idfference was I did not set LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2='ENABLE';
          Which I did now and tried to change the protection mode still I am getting the same error.

          ######################################################################
          # Data Guard
          ######################################################################
          #log_archive_dest_2 = 'service=entrust.on.newsun.tcp optional reopen=60
          max_failure=10'
          #log_archive_dest_2 = 'service=entrust.on.newsun.tcp LGWR ASYNC optiona
          l reopen=60 max_failure=10'
          log_archive_dest_2 = 'service=entrust.on.newsun.tcp LGWR SYNC optional
          reopen=60 max_failure=10'
          LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2='ENABLE'
          fal_client = entrust.on.newsun.tcp
          fal_server = entrust.on.sunblade.tcp
          standby_archive_dest = '/orahome/oracle/admin/10.2.0/entrust/arch'
          standby_file_management = AUTO

          Primary databases net service is entrust.on.sunblade.tcp

          init parameter on Primary

          fal_client = entrust.on.newsun.tcp
          fal_server = entrust.on.sunblade.tcp

          If your Stanby databases net service is entrust.on.sunblade.tcp

          Then init parameter on Standby

          fal_client = entrust.on.newsun.tcp
          fal_server = entrust.on.sunblade.tcp

          LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2='ENABLE'

            entrust.on.newsun.tcp is service name of standby database.

                  Try this command on primary database.

                  alter system set log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=entrust.on.newsun.tcp LGWR SYNC AFFIRM VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=<enter your db_unique_name>';

                    Where do you want me to add?

                    Primary init.ora parameter.

                    service_names = entrust.on.sunblade.tcp

                      I did set the following highlighted parameter as you mentioned and it's working fine.
                      What was the difference?

                            I am still not able to figure it out what was the problem.
                            In 10gr2 do not need to use AFFIRM/NOAFFIRM I believe.
                            The only thing was missing VALID_FOR parameter which I did not use for
                            ARCH and LGWR ASYNC when DB was in MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE mode.

                              Set the SYNC, LGWR, and AFFIRM attributes of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n
                              parameter for at least 1 standby database for maximum protection mode and maximum availability mode.

                              You running with maximum performance, set the LGWR and ASYNC attributes.

                              Go through the doc Oracle Data Guard Concepts and Administration. You can get clear notes for VALID_FOR parameter also.
