No version number? Do you think materialized views are the same in all versions?
The docs are at http://tahiti.oracle.com
Look up "ALTER MATERIALIZED VIEW"
Read the title : "10g Refresh Snapshot log question"
Complete version 10.2.0.3
10g could be any version of 10gR1 or 10gR2: You didn't specify.
As I gave you the reference to read ... my recommendation would be that you do so. There is much of value in the docs.
For the specific 10g case of
LIST => 'XYZ_DETAIL'
,METHOD => 'C'
,PUSH_DEFERRED_RPC => TRUE
,REFRESH_AFTER_ERRORS => FALSE
,PURGE_OPTION => 1
,PARALLELISM => 0
,ATOMIC_REFRESH => TRUE
,NESTED => FALSE);
and using PARALLELISM of 8 for a specific refresh
can you tell us what are the differences in Materialized Views , say between
10gR1 and 10gR2 if you can't tell us the differences between 8i and 10g ?

If you schedule a job to execute DBMS_MVIEW.REFRESH with all the parameters
(including Parallelism), you can specify Parallelism.
Parallelism here is an attribute of the REFRESH not of the CREATE so the ALTER
has nothing to do with it .
This is to refresh the MView itself.
The Snapshot Log on the base (source) table is automatically maintained -- any
DML on the source table immediately updates the Snapshot Log.
The process of refreshing the MV requires reading of the Snapshot Log to identify
changes in the source table. Thus, we refresh the MV, not the Log.
