How to change NLS_DATE_FORMAT

Hi all

I unable to change the NLS_DATE_FORMAT='YYYY/MM/DD'. My default setting is
nls_language = AMERICAN
nls_territory = AMERICA
nls_date_format =
nls_length_semantics = BYTE
nls_nchar_conv_excp = FALSE
I am working Oracle 10g rel 1 in Windows XP.
