would it not be the case that SCSI gives you 4 paths, and the Multipath driver gives you one device that is a balanced alias for all 4 ?
in any event there is an enhancement to ASM that allows you to override the standard path selection for ASM disks , search metalink for asm and powerpath and you will find it.
The multipath is the native of HPUX 11.31
there is the old style
and there is a new style called agile view
but somehow oracle could never recognize disk10 but it recongnizes
event i changed the path to /dev/rdisk but it could not detech the disk.
i just wonder anyone using /dev/rdisk/diskxx for ASM ???
I was able to get this config working yesterday.
I hope you have already done chown and chmod on /dev/rdisk/disk10 .
change the disk discovery path to '/dev/rdisk/disk*' and disk10 should come up as candidate disk.
At leash i know it works for you. i will try it again, for now i use the old way
the device name.
i did change the owner and group to oracle:oinstall and chmod 644
yes, we use asm and hpux 11.31 and this works good...
this is the permission I set for the device file:
# ll /dev/rdisk/disk349
crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 22 0x00003c Jul 29 10:10 /dev/rdisk/disk349
you have to set the asm_diskstring to /dev/rdisk/disk*
hope this helps
if not, post your error message and the output of:
select path from v$asm_disk;
and also check this bug # 433770.1 on metalink if you have upgrade to 10.2.0.3... we were running in this bug..
Thanks for your info.
now how can i switch from this path /dev/rdsk/DATA5
to this path /dev/rdisk/DATA5
Thank you all
to change the path to /dev/rdisk/disk*
change permission on /dev/rdisk/ASMDISK*
to #chown oracle:dba /dev/rdisk/ASMDISK*
#chmod 660 /dev/rdisk/ASMDISK*
restart the ASM and it detects the disks by itself.
Thanks for your helps!
which version of asm are you using? 10.2.0.3, 10.2.0.4,...? are you not running in the bug I posted?
i was installing 10.2.0.1 and upgraded it to 10.2.0.4
no i did not get the bug.
Is good to know that hpux 11.31 is working fine with ASM, just a question, was en HP recommendation?
we use it, because it's cheaper than the mirroring tools etc... of hp in combination with clusterware. but it's the best way to use it with >=hpux 11.31 because there is a native multipath driver and you must not use securepath etc...
check this for additional infos:
I've been used ASM since 11.11 with securePath, with 11.31 securepath is not supported. Must uses native Multipathing.
