    imp possible charset conversion

    user522961
      Hi,
      on 8.1.7 when importing from 10g R2 I receive :

Export file created by EXPORT:V08.01.07 via conventional path

Warning: the objects were exported by SYSTEM, not by you

import done in WE8PC850 character set and WE8ISO8859P15 NCHAR character set
import server uses WE8ISO8859P15 character set (possible charset conversion)
export client uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)
export server uses UTF8 NCHAR character set (possible ncharset conversion)

How can I convert charset ? Thank you.

For the import session, set nls_lang char set part to the same as the export dump i.e. we8iso8859p1. Hopefully "p15" is a superset of "p1".

About the NCHAR (national) character set. Well, UTF8 to WE8ISO8859P15 is an "impossible" conversion. Unicode can hold thousands of characters and the Latin character sets up to 256 characters. You'll have to know the data and structure from the source database. For example, if there are no NCHAR columns in the source db then it might work...

Another option would of course be to create a target database with matching character sets.
