Cisco VPN client failed to start

    245352
Hi, I have installed the VPN client successfully without any errors, but at the time of starting it, it gives the following error:

Starting /opt/cisco-vpnclient/bin/vpnclient: insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.9-42.0.0.0.1.ELsmp/CiscoVPN/cisco_ipsec.ko': -1 Invalid module format
      Failed (insmod)

Please suggest what can be the error.

When you try to build your vpn client, it fails on certain linux kernel headers. Between different kernel versions, there are minor changes which is breaking the build.

You have to patch your vpn client install files before they can be built.
You can get the patch from here:
          http://projects.tuxx-home.at/ciscovpn/patches/vpnclient-linux-2.6.24-final.diff
Get the patch for your particular linux header.

Patch the install files like this:
          cd vpnclientfolder
          wget http://projects.tuxx-home.at/ciscovpn/patches/vpnclient-linux-2.6.24-final.diff
          patch < ./vpnclient-linux-2.6.24-final.diff

Build your client once more and install should work.

How did you install your vpn client? The errormessage says it couldn't find a kernel module it needs (on your oracle enterprise linux 4 install)
