          An advice,always read RMAN errors from bottom up. In your case, this is the issue,
          ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
          Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
          Additional information: 3
          So now you tell us what you are trying to do? The specified file in your command is not available at the mentioned location and hence is the error.

            Do you have the backup at the location it is asking for???

                As you mentioned that you don't have a last backup that's why you are getting this error.
                Try this in RMAN,
                 rman > crosscheck backup;
                rman> list expired backup;
                This would show you the backups which are not on the physical media but are shown in the RMAN.

                        You are taking backup over tape or disk?
                        If you are on disk issue this before issuing anything,
                        Configure CHANNEL device type 'SBT_TAPE' clear;
                        This will clear the device and will make the device default as disk.
                        Than retry the same operation.

                          I am taking backup over disk, i configured the channel successfull n ran the crosscheck command:

                          Crosschecked 529 objects

                          and then the list of expired backup!

                          what would u like me to check after that?

                          thanks Aman....

                          I forgot to tell u that almost all of it is like (crosschecked backup piece: found to be 'EXPIRED')

                            This command is wrong.Apologies for it.Actuall command will be allocate channel for maintenance device type disk; and then you can run crosscheck backup.Just wanted to correct my mistake.

                                I asked you to check the backups that whether they are there physically over the disk or not. Crosscheck command checks that and the expired ones are those which are not found over the disk.So all the xpired stutus holding ones are those which are not on the disk. You can safely issue for those, "delete expired backups".
                                To take backups, simply issue, backup database over RMAN prompt. This should work.Post the output of it here.
