    can't receive message using MulticastTest

    3004

                Hi,

I am using wls7.0sp1. When i use the MulticastTest, I only can see the sending
                message:

                I (s1) sent message num 1
                I (s1) sent message num 2
                I (s1) sent message num 3
                I (s1) sent message num 4
                ...

                what's wrong?

Probably one of: Your multicast is disabled, your server needs to be
rebooted, the switch or router has multicast disabled, the TTL is too low,
                    the TTL is too high.

Thanks. I use -L 32 in the command. How can I know if multicast is enabled or
                      not? Thanks.

Use TTL of 0-2 and test with two instances on a LAN (1 or 2) or even the
                        same machine (0).

                          I did -L 2 -t 60 -s 5 on one machine. What I got is:

You'll need to get someone to help you configure the multicast. It may be
disabled on your switch, for example.

Actually this sounds like a bug in the MulticastTest - it promises to print errors
every once in a while if no messages are received.

Alternatively, if you have an up-to-date copy of Coherence, you can use its
                                multicast test:

                                  Thank you very much.
There is an extra firewall between webserver plugin and wls. Network people say
multicast is communication between wls servers, it has nothing to do with firewall,
                                  is it true?
Now with 3 servers clusterd, one server can send and receive messages, the other
2 can send messages but no one can receive, however if start server1 test first,
these two servers can receive the message from server1; starts server2 server3
first, they can receive message from server1.

Very strange. Certainly not good. Something (the hardware, the OS config,
the network switch, etc.) is FUBAR, and you're going to need some help
finding it. It's impossible for me to guess what it could be.

If the multicastTest failed, it definitely means the the cluster failed? Right
now the multicast test failed, but whenever one server in the cluster shutting
down, the other servers still log the message "removing server xx from the cluster..",
and when one server starts up, it can "<Discovered and synchronized with 2 other
running members of prd-cluster>", and other servers og the message "Adding server
xxx..", so does it means the cluster still works?

What's the hardware/OS requirement for multicast?

What's the hardware/OS requirement for multicast?
Generally, nowadays if you don't turn it off it works.

I wish I could point some obvious on/off switch to you, but it's not that
                                        easy.
