Unable to locate a login configuration

    3004

I have installed WLS 6.0 (demo) twice on 2 separate machines. One was
successful, the other one is giving me a java.lang.SecurityException
with the message as the subject of this post, but I did not do anything
different as far as installation steps are concerned.

On the box having a problem, using some debugging tools, it was
apparently looking for the file .java.login.config under the user's home
directory, and the file does not exist. I can't remember if this file
existed on the box in the office where it was installed OK, but I assume
it was since it did not gave us that problem.

I assume that this missing file is supposed to contain the admin name
and password which I was asked during installation.

Thing is, I cannot find any documentation of what the contents of
.java.login.config should be ( and why it was not created in the first
place )? I have heaps of free space left.

      Thanks,

      John

What types of machines are you using? Did you use the install shield for
          both?

          More details would be helpful.

          Thanks,

            Both linux on x86 ( I know it's not a certified platform, still ... ),
            used blackdown's 1.3.0 JVM ( with glibc-2.1.3 ) on the one without a
problem, then used IBM's JVM 1.3.0 ( also with glibc-2.1.3 ) on the one
            with a problem about java.login.config.

I used installshield in both instances, both installations worked fine,
except the other one can't find the java.login.config file. On the other
hand, the other box without this problem does NOT have a
            java.login.config file either .... Hmmmmm.....

I can confirm now that the problem that this problem / exception is only
              occuring with IBM's JDK 1.3.0.
When I switched to Sun's or Blackdown's JDK 1.3.0, this does not happen.

Not sure if this is a problem elsewhere (meaning other OS's),but I just installed 6.1 on Red Hat 7.2, now getting SecurityException: Unable to locate a login configuration at com.sun.security.auth.login.ConfigFile.<init>(ConfigFile.java:99)

                Is this issue back?

There's not problem to start WL 6.0 for Linux on Redhat Linux 7.2, but failed to start it with WL 6.1sp1 for Linux
