3Gb and PAE switches in Windows 2003
Hi,
I have a server that has 12 Gb Ram, and currently has PAE in the boot.ini file. Currently our database is not set up to use it, and we wish to add another database on the server still. The business has other tools on the server that they want to start using, that they say can utilize the PAE switch, but due to the memory complexity of Oracle, the retrostep of db_block_buffers, and the CPU spinning problem when memory is underallocated for AWE we do not wish to utilize the PAE for the databases but are happy to use the 3Gb switch to almost double our RAM for oracle.
If the AWE window for the business processes are set to a smallish amount (not the default 1Gb), have you heard of any problems with Oracle utilizing the 3Gb switch and not PAE, when the PAE switch is specified for the server and used by other processes?
Boot.ini file will have /3Gb and /PAE switchs coded.
As the server is currently in production, we want to minimize the amount of reboots required in order to get the AWE window size correct so that server performs optimally.
Thanks in advance,
Sharon
