Unable to start Application Server Concole

    user613441
      I am new to middleware.
I have installed Oracle Application Server Forms and Reports Services. (10.1.2.0.2) on my PC(windows) for learning. I am unable to start AS console either from command prompt or from the menu.

      The errors logged in $ORACLE_HOME\sysman\log
emdctl.trc:2009-01-28 11:26:57 Thread-668 WARN http: snmehl_connect: connect failed to (w2vz8zz603.apac.corp.eds.com:*18100*): No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

      Thank you in advance.

          Hi,

Have you checked your firewall?? The message displays connection was refused, so maybe windows firewall is causing the problem. If firewall is active you should open the ports the Application Server Console needs You could sniff the connection try and see if there's dropped packets.

If your firewall is ok, you could check your antivirus, if you have one (running windows, you should!!) ;-) Most of them have an embedded firewall...

B-)On the second thought I guess it was a little silly to ask these ports Q I will seach the web and try to fix it up. I will let you know the results thans again

                Also,

                - When you started iasconsole from a dos-shell, did you set the ORACLE_HOME variable?
                - Is your machine running on DHCP?
                - Did you put the IP address of your machine in your hostfile? (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts)

When you started iasconsole from a dos-shell, did you set the ORACLE_HOME variable? YES
Is your machine running on DHCP? YES
Did you put the IP address of your machine in your hostfile? (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) NO
                  I assume I don't need it as it's a dynamic IP

I am still unable to open firewall port ... is there any way to change the port 18100 to something else ?

DHCP is not supported for an AS. Anyway, this is an installation issue. During the installation there are some files missing.

                    The files
                    oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\applications\em\em\WEB-INF\lib\uix2.jar
                    oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\applications\em\em\WEB-INF\lib\ohw.jar
                    oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\applications\em\em\WEB-INF\lib\share.jar

are missing. In the most cases you needs to create the directory WEB-INF\lib manually.

As a workaround, copy the above 3 files to '...\WEB-INF\lib' and restarted asconsole. The files are located in $ORACLE_HOME\jlib.

This seems to be your problem:

09/02/03 11:17:46 Error starting ORMI-Server. Unable to bind socket: Address already in use: JVM_Bind

Also, you are starting an OMS agent, not iasconsole. This is caused by an ill-configured ORACLE_HOME variable or some issues with your PATH. Please make sure you are calling the correct emctl.bat (not the one of OMS)

The environment looks Ok. I run emctl start iasconslole and not the agent. And I can see that agent is stopped in started but i guess it 's the part of the process. And anyway absolutely the same happens when I go via PROGRAM->FRHome_1..etc -. start application control. In this case I believe it's nothing to do with environment. If the problem is with port may be I need to reinstall it and specify port manually ?:_| But how do I know what ports ..

Ports are noted in the portlist.ini file, somewhere in the ORACLE_HOME (i think it is $ORACLE_HOME/config, but I don't know for sure)

Could you post the contents of the PATH environment variable?

do you use this url to enter to the em console?

                              http://w2vz8zz603.apac.corp.eds.com:18100

And if you do this, hostname and domainname exists in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host file?

                              host file should look like...

                              *10.0.0.1 w2vz8zz603.apac.corp.eds.com w2vz8zz603*

where of course *10.0.0.1* has to be the ip of this machine.

                              Regards

The trick with hosts file didn't work.

                                This the PATH var:

From my latest finding I can see that java.exe process is one or other way is using this ports .
I did try to change port using emctl.bat config iasconsole port # command and the command passed Ok. But it didn't help and it's like shooting in the sky I hate doing thing i don't understand but I just don't have other way at this stage as to keep trying ...

:(From what I can gather it's most likely a firewall issue. But I am on the corporate network, I don't think I can play with firewall ports..

Is there any other way to resolve it ????

Weird thing happened after 3 re-install , I managed to access AS console and looks like all options there are working Ok. But it still shows in services and if i run ./emctl.bat status iasconsole that is't not running
