    Oracle Apex application on iPhone

    416257
I was wondering what it would take to create an iPhone applicaiton using Oracle apex. At the very least I was thinking of probably creating an RSS feed using Apex which can be used inside an RSS application inside Apple's Dashcode. Anyone played with this?

I found Joe Hewitt's iPhone iUI library to be pretty useful, you can use the styles and javascripts included and use that within new Oracle Apex pages. The code is hosted in [http://code.google.com/p/iui/|http://code.google.com/p/iui/]

Also came across [http://www.aptana.com/iphone|http://www.aptana.com/iphone] that is built on top of Eclipse and has a neat plugin for iPhone.

IBM's site also has a neat tutorial on iPhone app development, which is pretty useful: [http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/os-eclipse-iphone/|http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/os-eclipse-iphone/]

All this can be done without actually using the iPhone SDK from Apple.

Hope this is useful to someone. Let's share all iPhone related things in this thread.

          Thanks

Good timing! I've actually been playing around with doing an iPhone-version ApEx theme with either iUI or iWebKit. Right now I'm leaning toward iWebKit - has a little more UI stuff built-in. I've got it doing log-in, and I've got a report displaying as an iPhone "list". Right now I'm messing around with forms. Once I have a base-line version, I'll put it up with a link.

One thing I'm finding with the form work is that some of the code that ApEx generates kind of clashes with what I'm trying to do with the iPhone theme. For example, there are no templates for ApEx field items, so it gets kind of tricky to make ApEx generate the various field tags in a way that displays/works like a "real" iPhone webapp. Works so far, but somewhat kludgy.

I'll stay at it though. But if anyone's had any experience with this, please share as I'd much rather steal your stuff than write my own!

I used an Accordion panel (JQuery) and it renders pretty fine on the iPhone test websites. Check this out: [http://www.philadelphiacricketleague.com/pls/htmldb/f?p=668:200|http://www.philadelphiacricketleague.com/pls/htmldb/f?p=668:200] on [http://www.testiphone.com/|http://www.testiphone.com/] . I was playing with the iPhone SDK a bit, found it a bit complicated, probably if I keep at it, it might get easier.

Also came across this book from Manning: [http://www.manning.com/callen/|http://www.manning.com/callen/]

I will check out iWebKit too.

It worked out pretty good with iWebit. Check out the mobile version of Philadelphia cricket league website for iPhone

You can also view it with http://www.testiphone.com/ if you don't have iPhone (like me) with you.

                  Hi Sujay,
Nice application. Thanks for sharing info.
Have you been able to do any iPhone app that also successfully updates or inserts your Apex application tables? In looking at some other threads on the forum this seems to be challenging.

                  Thanks,
                  Pat

Have a look at my brother's APEX on the iPhone presentation that he did at ODTUG a few weeks back:

                        Sujay,

Could you share your template or some more details on how to go about creating an iPhone app using APEX ?

I have looked around, but don't know how to start.

Would appreciate if you could share some code or insight.

                        Rgds,

Please let me know the steps to make the apex application to get displayed in the iphone.
                          It is very urgent.

                          Thanks

Check out JQTouch. It's JQuery for mobile applications.

                              Hi Francis,

I want the steps to integrate the work done(application) done in apex to be displayed in iphone.
If there is any mechanism to just transfer to iphone and viewed there.
                              It is very urgent.

                              Thanks

                                Thanks for your help.

Please quote me how to transfer the developed application code to iphone by not developing in the iphone.

                                Thanks

                                  Hi,

You will have to access your APEX application via the Iphone safari web browser.

If you want it to behave like an iphone application, you will have to change your templates.

                                  See : http://sumnertechnologies.com/apex/f?p=10000:395:0::NO::P395_PRESENTATION_KEY:APEX_IPHONE
