    Change Redundancy Level

    660111
I have a RAC Database, using 1 Disk Group.
This Disk Group is using Redundancy HIGH. It has three disks.

Can I change the Redundancy to EXTERNAL?
I want to do that because I need to remove 2 of the 3 Disks.

          Hi,

no, you cannot change the redundancy level of a disk group without destroying it. But you can change the redundancy level of certain files within a diskgroup using the ASM templates. But I am not sure right now, whether this would help you too much. Maybe others care to comment on that.

          Thanks,

            Hi,

You are right, the current DG needs to be destroyed anyway in order to "change" disk group redundancy level.
            The two options are:
            - Migrating data to a new disk group created with the desired redundancy level.
            - Take a backup on the database, drop current DG, re-create it with different redundancy level then do restore/recover.

            Hope this helps as well.

              Hi,

If you want to change redudency from High to external. Thenk you should follow following stps:

              1. Take a RMAN Backup.
              2. Drop the DISKGROUP.
              3. Create New Deisk group with external redudency.
              4. restore the RMAN backup.

              Regards
