Problem with start second instance in RAC

    lesak
      Hi,

I've installed Oracle RAC on 2 nodes. Unfortunately after installation I've seen that now all services started up (srvctl command explain that second instance is down):

Then I try to manually start those instance, but it thrown exception, that initoracl2.ora file is not specified. Then I try to create symbolic link to correct init.ora file (init+ASM2.ora), but then I've got ORA-29760 error :/

Could anyone know how to help me with this?

BTW, I put 2 more screen shots for better understanding:

      *1) what happen in sqlplus*

      *2) directory structure*

parameter [instance_number|http://www.sc.ehu.es/siwebso/KZCC/Oracle_10g_Documentacion/server.101/b10755/initparams085.htm] is missing from the init.ora file you are using to start that instance.
you will need put that parameter in your initialization file if you want to start it.

What's more interesting... When I copy file from ASM locally like that:

            [oracle@nod2 dbs]$ cp /u01/app/oracle/admin/+ASM/pfile/init.ora initorcl2.ora

and set instance_number=2, then during startup instance I've got an error:

            ORA-00304: requested INSTANCE_NUMBER is busy

Right now, I don't know what's going on....

Toni, this parameter is not missing in init.ora file - I've checked it before:

              [oracle@nod2 dbs]$ cat /u01/app/oracle/admin/+ASM/pfile/init.ora

              (...)

              +ASM2.instance_number=2
              +ASM1.instance_number=1

are you sure that you are starting instance with the correct init.ora ?
could you try to use full path when specifying init.ora ?
also ,if you can, paste here the content of those two initialization parameters.

No, I'm sure that during startup oracle want to read initorcl.ora file. But I don't know why command "startup pfile" didn't work :/
Here is my init.ora file generated during installation:

BTW, Yes I tried to use full path to init.ora but as you can see in previous post, Oracle through error...

Connect to the one that's running and check the instance number.

                      show parameter instance_number

                        How interesting ?

Do you have the problem on ASM or not?

                        If Yes?

                        Please check pfile on node1

                        ASM:
                        cat $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/dbs/init+ASM1.ora

                        DATABASE:
                        cat $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/dbs/initorcl1.ora

Actually, you should copy pfile from node1 to node2

                        scp node01:$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/dbs/init+ASM1.ora $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/dbs/init+ASM2.ora

                        scp node01: $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/dbs/initorcl1.ora $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/dbs/initorcl2.ora

that's idea ... you can adapt with your idea...

                        After that->
                        On node02:

                        export ORACLE_SID=orcl2
                        sqlpus / as sysdba
                        SQL> startup

                        and post error :

Byt the way if you need to solve instance's not start by "srvctl"
you can review at $ORACLE_HOME/log/nod2/racg/imon* files
