    Oracle 11g Enterprise Manager

    722143
I am new to Oracle but I have installed the database/server but my EM is not loading correctly it doesn't ask a password either.

      Agent Connection to Instance
      Status Failed

Details ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)

How do I fix this to get it to load correctly.

Thanks to any help you can give me

          1) did you use https instead of http?
          2) did you start the listener? (what is command line output of "lsnrctl status")
          3) do you have more than one piece of Oracle s/w installed on that machine?
          4) what is the output of 'emctl status dbconsole'?

            1) I used https

            2) lsnrctl status:

              Notice this:
              The listener supports no services
You use port 1522 and you obviously don't have a static entry for your database in listener.ora. The easiest solution, change port 1522 to 1521, afterwards dynamic registration will work.

Interesting. EM should not whine when the database is down, unless you have changed the hostname - either manually or by using DHCP during install and not using loopback adapter.

To ensure there is no basic issue, please start the database manually (command line
                sqlplus / as sysdba
                startup
                exit
If it is already up, try
                sqlplus / as sysdba
                alter system register;
                exit
Afterward, recheck that the listener does show the database's service.

                  Good catch.

Do I change this in both the listener.ora and the tsnames.ora?
                    Thanks, P

Yes. Otherwise you will see 'No Listener' because of the different ports.

I followed Hans instructions and it works now.
After a reboot will this stick?
                        Thanks so much.....

Should - if you are using a static hostname. Use DHCP, and all bets are off.
