Hi every one. I am an OBIEE consultant and I am looking for a job for now. I am getting requirements asking for Oracle Apps (EBS) or Oracle BI Apps. 40% of the requirements ask for these two. But I don't have any idea about O BI Apps. I know EBS is an ERP...........but there are some similar words in BI apps. What do you say??
If I want to learn Oracle BI apps, do I need any knowledge of EBS??
Thanks in advance,
E-Business Suite -EBS is the Oracle Apps or Oracle ERP, latest release is R12 or 12.1.1
Oracle BI Apps or OBIA is the OBIEE based packaged solution that works against EBS , JD Edwards, Peoplesoft, Siebel etc...
To implement OBIA you need knowledge of OBIEE, some Informatica, DAC and some degree of EBS (or the source system).
This combination of skills is quite hot in the market.
Today Oracle BI Apps 220.127.116.11 was released.
Thanks for your reply Shyamvaran,
You said "that works against EBS" in the above post, what does against exactly mean??
2 days back i got a req asking for OBIEE Procurement and Spend Analytics. I know OBIEE but not Procurement and Spend Analytics, I searched for this and came to know that this is a part in BI apps. If I want to learn OBIA, do i need to learn the whole OBIA suite or One or two modules are enough to face the job market??
I am very good at OBIEE and I would like to learn OBIA, can you please advice me how to start and from where to start? Can you please email me if you have any guides to email@example.com??? Please Shyamvaran this will be of great use for me.
OBIEE is the infrastructure or the engine that runs Oracle BI Applications. In other words Oracle ships a complete suite of Applications in the BI space, one of which is Procurement & Spend Analytics. There are other ones called Financial Reporting and Profitability, Order Management, HR related Analytics, etc. You can download the marketing presentations from the Oracle website.
These are nothing but things that you would normally build but comes pre-built out of the box. This includes a complete warehouse with the physical data model (all fact and dimension tables) Business model and presentation catalog (Repository) and most importantly you get pre-built ETL routines in the form of adaptors that you plug and play. You just configure a few things on the Warehouse, Repository side and on the Informatica side (provided you choose Informatica as your ETL product) and you are ready to go. Just gave you a simplistic view ;-) This is nothing but re-badged Seibel Analytics.
If your core skill is OBIEE then you need to get your hand on an Out of the box Repository and start having a look at it. You don't have to re-skill/re-train in any way but just understand the architecure. Then you are using the same skills like Answers, Deliver, Oracle BI Admin.
Thanks for you reply. I got a clear understanding of BI apps. I started reading the installation and configuration guide, I struggling to understand it. Do you have any documents which are easier to digest? Thanks one again for your reply,
Look at my slide deck from a similar presentation
Its 4th from the top, there is also a audio video file that is 80 mb if you want to replay the session
