user11178721Oct 22 2009 — edited Jul 12 2011
Hi,

I am getting an error while installing Oracle 11g R1 client(11.1.0.7.0) on Windows 7 x32.

Error: OUI-18001: The operating system 'Windows Vista Version 6.1' is not supported.
Recommendation : install the recommended service pack.

According to the certification matrix the first version for Windows 7 will be 11gR2:

Wait until this supported software is released or move to a supported Windows version.

Self-service option - when it is available, it will show up at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html

I haven't checked the certify matrix but for a test instance, there haven't been any problems running Oracle Database 11g (11.1.0.7) on Windows 6.1. More or less, Windows 7 is only a major patch. Instructions for the install are here:

Oracle 11g works like a champ on Win7. During the install, when you get that error regarding Windows Vista 6.1, you will see a small check box next to the error message. Simply check the box next to the error. It will designate the error as "User Verified". Then you can continue your install.

Problem solved.

On Win7 64 bit... not 100% - ODBC seems to be an issue afaik.....

I dislike the normal picture of Windows 7 as "not ready for production" that seems to be the normal opinion in Oracle forums - it is and a client that works is very needed!

I'm running 64bit but have not run into any issues. Not using ODBC though.

Only for Oracle 10g client installation on win 7 32, 64 bit

To get going with oracle on windows 7 64-bit. You can install oracle 10g 32 which you use for windows XP. Its unusal but successful. Install 10G it will get installed on program files x86. Then open tnsnames.ora files which will be either in program files x86/oracle/....search or it will be in c:\oracle...write the correct server name in tnsnames and in PB while doing the configuration..write tns:servername in the server textbox. I did that and it got connected...incase u need any help let me know my email address is icon_5000@rediffmail.com

cheers
