    Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 and ODP.NET

I'm evaluating the latest beta of Visual Studio 2010 and was surprised to see that ODP doesn't show up in the provider list.

After checking for an entered bug on MS's Connect site, I found that it doesn't show up because they changed where providers are stored in the registry. It's different enough where I am unable to manually add it. (https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=476338)

Has anyone else run into this? Does Oracle plan to have an update to ODP that installs the correct registry keys for VS2010?

          Hi,

The registry location would get updated during an Oracle install. Once ODT.NET is certified with VS2010, I'm sure it will be updated accordingly. Additionally, the [Oracle Developer Tools forum| http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=228&start=0] is probably a more appropriate place for this, just fyi.

          Hope it helps,
          Greg

Oh, I have no doubt that in some future version it will install properly, but it's not hard to put a check in the installer for the Visual Studio version and write the correct registry entries. VS2010 has been in the works for over a year. I'm sure Oracle has access to the latest builds. Do they think none of their users are going to be trying out public betas?

This coupled with the fact that Oracle still doesn't have an implementation supporting the entity framework and a LINQ-to-Oracle makes me believe that Oracle really doesn't care too much about .NET developers.
