Re: to REF or not to REF?
"To avoid dangling REFs, we must have good old foreign key:
ALTER TABLE emp_obj_tab ADD CONSTRAINT emp_dept_fk FOREIGN KEY (dept_oid) REFERENCES dept_obj_tab;"
make your own "OID" primary key column (raw(16)), set it using sys_guid() (as oracle does), and use it for all your foreign key relationships.
better still, store relationally (in tables with columns of builtin types) and use object views (and/or views with object/collection columns). that approach gains you object extensions without sacrificing relational capabilities.
