    Error when starting up dbconsole

    user222828
      Hi All.
We had a scheduled outage last night and I am having trouble bringing up the dbconsole:

Unable to initialize ssl connection with server, aborting connection attempt

I am running Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.4.0 on Linux

The agent is running but can't get the dbconsole up...

      Any ideas?

      Thanks

          Hi,

Why do you need agent if you are using dbcosole. Agent is required to communicate with Grid Control. Try shutting down the agent and then starting the dbconsole. Make sure to have DISPLAY setting. Also check if there were any changes on firewall etc.

          Regards

            Stopped the agent.
Try starting the dbconsole get the message:

            - An instance of Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control is already running.

But I can't connect to it
Try stopping the console and get the following:

Stopping Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control ...
--- Failed to shutdown DBConsole Gracefully ---
            failed.

after that I do a status and get:

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g is not running.

Then I do a start and get:

            - An instance of Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control is already running.

Is there any way to kill it?

              Do ps -ef|grep -i emagent

And use kill -9 to kill. Then you can try starting with emctl start agent.

                  Hi,

You gave us the log file output, but did not lists the command you used to do all the activity. So it is all guess work from our side that you are using correct syntex. Also check if Oracle http server is up and running. The /etc/hosts file have correct entries. etc.

                  Regards

                    Sorry about that:

did a kill -9 from the os to kill the agent process

used the following to stop and start dbconsole

                    stop dbconsole
                    emctl stop dbconsole

                    start dbconsole
                    emctl start dbconsole

This is probably a stupid question but how do I verify if the Oracle http server is running? ps -ef | grep apache?

                      ps -ef | grep httpd

The http demon should be running from $ORACLE_HOME.

Also make sure that emctl is running from $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory. You can check it by running 'which emctl'

                      Regards

Not running but how do I start it? I am asking because I've seen documentation about how to do it... Can't find apachectl or httpdsctl on this box. Sorry about being so elementary about this... I just took over this server and am not familiar with Linux at all.

                        Thanks

Have you configured the dbcolsole for the database? Please check the following link to get more details on how to configure.

                          http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/deployments/b12013_03.pdf

Just want to confirm if you have multiple oracle binary installed on the server.

Yes the dbconsole has been configured...
We had a scheduled outage this past weekend where the entire box was restarted and we are now just seeing the dbconsole issue.

It was working before. I think perhaps a process didn't get started that is required for the console... I also found documentation on using opmnctl to manage the http server [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/server.101/b12255/overview.htm] but I can't see this script either...

                            [RCWLO-ODS10g] /opt/oracle>cd $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin
                            [RCWLO-ODS10g] /opt/oracle/product/10.2/db_1/opmn/bin>ls
                            ons

there's no opmnctl in this directory...

                              Hello,

It seems that your SSL Certificate is over.

You may try to regenerate your SSL Certificate like that:
                              emctl stop dbconsole
                              emctl secure dbconsole
                              emctl stop dbconsole
                              emctl start dbconsole
                              emctl status dbconsole
                              Hope it can help.
                              Best regards,
                              Jean-Valentin

                                Hi,

It may work. But normally you need to secure the agent to communicate with grid server. But in the case of dbconsole there is no Grid agent involved. So it does make sense to me, but you never know.

                                Regards

Well this is getting interesting now. I figured out one of the problems... This whole issue arose due to the fact I couldn't connect to the console in my browser... I found out that some of my connection settings for my pc changed... specifically my proxy server settings. I switched them back to the correct values and tried connecting to dbconsole through my browser and it worked fine... But when I check the status of the console it still says it is not running... (Note this for one of my db instances)

I then proceeded to test the other 4 I have on that box...

At first I couldn't connect at all in my browser (getting the page cannot be displayed error)
I then started the conole (emctl start dbconsole) and got the ................................................................. failed error but when I tried going in through my browser to see if it was up I could connect to it fine.

emctl status dbconsole still says none of them are running...

Does this still have to do with the certificate?

                                    Hi,

emctl status dbconsole will give you status of dbconsole only for the specified ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME. If you have multiple databases running on the server, you have change the environment variables to test its status. In my initial reply I suggested you to check Firewall settings (usaually of PC) which blocks access to web page outside of its allowed firewall settings.

                                    Regards
