Cannot search customer in Chinese in global search after upgrade

We have a custom field called Local name in customer record type. This field contains name of the company in different language. Our users were able to search using local name field in global search but not anymore after the upgrade.

Do we know what setup changed and how to enable system to be able to search Chinese or other language company name?
