Select the field to link parent transaction record to custom record

I have a custom record to hold the input documents to a work order. On the custom record, I have linked to the work order transaction as the parent record, However, it shows on the list to link from the custom record as the transaction name (Work Order #06). How do I get this list to reflect the document number (WO06).
