Work order status change

Hello, I have created a work order status "release" button using a workflow. However I cannot find "status" field under set field value so that that work order status can change from planned to released.

Is there any workaround? :)

Also, I cannot figure out why work status has to be changed from planned to released in edit mode by way of manual selection after creating a work order.
