ECO Engineering Change Order

Hello,


Is it possible to leverage this functionality on new item requests?


Example,

Sales may request a variant of an existing assembly item. This new item request would get it's own name/ID with specific BOM. I would like this request to go to the required users for approval before being an active item. I have created a standalone workflow that essentially does this, but was curious if I could use the SCM/Suite Approvals logic of the ECO to accomplish this.
