Using Resource Allocations to drive Project Timelines
Good morning!
We've been using ASSIGNMENTS for the past couple years on projects. The benefit being that Assigned Hours on a Project Task appear to be the only way to let NetSuite derive estimated/calculated End Dates.
Ex: Resource with a 40hr/wk work calendar, assigned 80 hours of work on a task, at 50%. NetSuite will calculate 4-weeks to do that work. Assuming a Start Date of 2/1/2021, NetSuite would project the end date at 2/26/2021. Importantly, the Project Task dates get updated with this information, as does the overall Project end date.
The two big drawbacks we have with ASSIGNMENTS are:
- If a user starts the work for 2 weeks, gets pulled onto another priority for 2 weeks, then comes back to finish the work: Planned time ended on the 26th, but there's really 2 weeks of hours left to be completed. Planned Utilization reports and Project Charges Forecasts are off with regard to the dates.
