Amount (debit) minus Amount (credit) issues

Hi

I am trying to have a saved search calculate in a formula (numeric) field amount

(debit) minus amount (credit)

I failed in numerous ways to get this to work, trying

{debitamount}-{creditamount}

(TO_NUMBER({debitamount}))-(TO_NUMBER({creditamount}))

Can anyone help?

Search works fine to show {debitamount}{creditamount} on their own.
