Opportunity to Sales Order Alert when there is an Inactive Item

Situation:

Quoted a customer in July for an item that was inactivated 10/29/21. The quote was then promoted to a sales order 11/2 - the system allowed the promotion without notifying the sales person their quoted item was inactivated. Now we can not fulfill the item since it's inactivated. Is there an alert/message that can/should display when situations like this occur?
