Searchable First Transaction Date for Customers

I'm trying to work around the issue of tracking new Customers that have $0 sales (i.e. we sent samples etc).

1) I understand you can't retrieve a saved search populated value in another saved search - that is ultimately what I'm trying to do, or find a work around. Limitations - https://netsuite.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/31727

2) Created a customer field on the customer form, and Saved Search to populate per this article:

Display the First Transaction Date of a Customer on the Customer Record https://netsuite.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/92014
