Is a NetSuite OneWorld account required for subsidiaries?

Company with NetSuite, but not OneWorld, has completed acquisition of another company and has short-term need to differentiate Items and Chart of Accounts of newly acquired company.

Is subsidiary structure necessary for this short-term need or could Department or other classification be utilized until newly acquired company is fully integrated into existing company?

If subsidiary structure is necessary, is this only available with a NetSuite OneWorld account?
