custom field location average

Hi there

I am trying to put a custom field on my inventory items which displays the average costs of a specific location.

I have selected Formula for the default value and then used this:

CASE WHEN {location} = XXX THEN {location.averagecost} ELSE NULL END

However the field stays blank and does not pull through any data.

Any suggestions?
