How to resolve error: "The following subsidiaries are listed..." when editing a Customer record?

Hello,

We enabled multi-subsidiary customer feature and ever since, whenever we try to edit a customer we get the error below. Is anyone familiar with this error? We have searched everywhere but no luck with resolving it or finding more information. We checked and the customer does not have a subcustomer.

"The following subsidiaries are listed under subcustomers and cannot be removed:"
