How to Trigger User Event Scripts during workflow

Hi, all. I'm working on editing our sales order approval workflow to allow some small class of orders to go straight from pending approval to pending fulfillment, so users don't have to review and approve every order. However, since no users touch the orders, the user-event scripts we have for sales orders aren't firing for these auto-approved orders. Is there a way in a workflow for me to trigger these to run? I basically just need the equivalent of "open this order for editing and save"....
